“Safety technologies and telematics are predominantly used to improve safety for drivers and other road users and to optimise the efficiency of transport activities. Increasingly, technology plays a bigger part in the day-to-day activities of our personal and work lives. The heavy vehicle industry is no exception. Technology advances now allow real time monitoring of vehicles and provide intervention options to improve driver safety. Industries response to technology and how they integrate technology into their existing safety systems is essential for improving the safety of drivers and other road users.

It has come to the attention of the NHVR that, in some instances, the systems installed are not being used to their full potential. Not only does this significantly reduce the safety benefits that safety technologies and telematic data provide, but it may also result in parties failing to meet their Heavy Vehicle National Law CoR primary duty obligations”
